Fascinated by technology since she was a kid, Rupinder followed her passion for IT, first as a teacher, then as a Salesforce analyst.
Ever since she can remember, Rupinder Kaur has been fascinated by technology. She gravitated toward computer science classes in high school and then pursued both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in the field.
Teaching Tech to Others
Born in Roorkee, India, Rupinder began her career in technology as an instructor at Swami Satyanand College of Management and Technology in Amritsar, India.
Impressively, she began this role right after completing her postgraduate education. Although not shy and never afraid to speak up, Rupinder recalls being nervous to lead her first class.
“When I first started my teaching career, I had to overcome my fear of speaking in front of 60 students,” she says. “My legs were shaking and I almost forgot my topic, but I eventually delivered my 55-minute lecture and never looked back.”
Rupinder moved up to an associate professor role and, after seven years in the classroom, Rupinder was promoted to head of the information technology department. Over the years, she received recognition from her colleagues and students, including the title of best teacher.
Using Her Expertise at IvyTek
In 2018, Rupinder moved to Canada with her family. She took this opportunity to revisit both her love of learning and her original interest in pursuing a career as an IT professional.
“I always wanted to work in IT,” she says. “I chose to learn Salesforce and upskill myself.” And that she did. Rupinder is now a certified Salesforce Administrator, and also has a Salesforce Platform App Builder certification. Beyond Salesforce, she’s Scrum Fundamentals Certified and holds a Scrum Foundations Professional certificate.
At IvyTek, Rupinder and her team of project managers help clients through every step of an engagement, from onboarding and business process review to implementation and service. A mainstay throughout a project’s lifecycle, she frequently collaborates with other IvyTek team members.
“I love talking to all of my colleagues. It’s like a family. I love working here,” she says of her IvyTek experience.
Outside of the Office: Capturing Moments & Giving Back
Rupinder lives in Niagara Falls, Ontario, with her husband and son—and considers it one of the most beautiful places she’s ever seen.
“I love to be surrounded by nature,” she says, adding that her family loves to bike, hike, and explore new places together. And, if you spot Rupinder out and about on a trail or by the falls, you can bet you’ll find her capturing the scenery; photography is another favorite pastime. She especially loves taking photos of plants, flowers, and insects.
Rupinder also volunteers with #SheForceWIT, a global community of women (and allies) who love tech and Salesforce. Members of this group share career advice and connect participants to opportunities.
